Little is known about the life of St. Scholastica, yet it is remarkable that she is probably more widely venerated than any other saint of her sex of the same century.
Her name means “scholar” or “disciple”, and it was probably given to her because she was St. Benedict’s “scholar” in the “School of the Lord’s Service.”
